Two guests at a table on the Piaterra safari tent's wooden deck, one of them using a wheelchair, with the orange Quadrix all-terrain wheelchair parked on the grass in front.

In the middle of the Belgian Ardennes, along the river Ourthe, there is a small natural campsite sitting in a valley between the trees.

That's where you'll find Piaterra

A spacious, accessible safari tent where you can stay close to nature, without giving up the comfort and practical support you need.

The view from the tent's covered deck: a woman in a manual wheelchair and a man in an orange T-shirt play cards at a dark table, a bottle and two glasses beside them. Beyond the wooden railing a wide mown meadow runs down to the treeline, with small tents pitched along the far edge and the wooded hills of the Ardennes rising behind.

Accessibility, built in from the beginning

Piaterra was designed around wheelchair access and mobility needs from the start, with input from people with lived experience of physical disability.

Every stay includes:

  • Step-free access
  • Wide doors and space to move
  • Height-adjustable beds
  • Accessible wet room with shower chair, grab bars and roll-under sink
  • Roll-under kitchenette

For exact measurements, photos and details, see our accessibility information.

Accessibility is at the heart of how we build Piaterra. Meet the people behind Piaterra.

Inside the safari tent: a bright open room under a high canvas roof with a wooden plank floor. An electric profiling bed on a metal frame stands in the middle with clear floor space around it and underneath. Along the right-hand wall a wooden kitchenette with worktop, sink, small fridge and microwave; a dining table in the foreground and large windows letting in daylight.
A woman with long red hair drives the orange Quadrix all-terrain wheelchair through a sunlit meadow of tall dry grass, smiling up at a man in an orange T-shirt who walks beside her with one hand resting on the seat's roll bar. The Quadrix runs on four chunky off-road tyres; wooded hills and white wildflowers frame the field behind them.

Explore the surroundings

Piaterra is more than a place to stay. It is a base from which to experience the nature around you.

During your stay, you can use the Quadrix Axess Touch, an electric all-terrain wheelchair controlled by joystick. Take it beyond the campsite, follow the surrounding routes, and explore the forest at your own pace.

In the heart of the Ardennes

We are located on Camping Cosmopolite, a small campsite on the banks of the Ourthe, five minutes by car from La Roche-en-Ardenne.

The river runs right past the meadow, and the surrounding area is made for kayaking, mountain biking, and quiet walks.

La Roche-en-Ardenne itself is a lively base for exploring the region, with restaurants, shops and plenty to discover.

The location is easy to reach. Liège and Namur are both within an hour’s drive, and the borders of the Netherlands, France and Germany are nearby.

A high viewpoint over the Ourthe valley: the river winds through a deep green valley between steep wooded slopes, with mown meadows, hedgerows and a narrow lane on the valley floor, and rolling forested hills stretching to the horizon under a pale blue summer sky.
