What we collect, and why.

We decide what happens to the personal data described on this page. In the language of the GDPR, that makes us the “controller”.

What we collect

Your email address, if you type it into the newsletter form. The form does not ask for your name, your health or your disability.

A short record of your consent when you sign up: the date, the page you signed up from, and the wording that appeared next to the button you clicked. That record exists so we can show what you agreed to.

Basic visit data, collected automatically when you open a page: which page, which site sent you here, and roughly which country and device type you are on. These are aggregate figures and they do not identify you. See Cookies and analytics below.

Why we are allowed to

For the newsletter: your consent, under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR. You can withdraw it whenever you like — there is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email we send.

For the visit statistics: our legitimate interest in knowing whether the website works and which pages people read, under Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. Pirsch respects the “Do Not Track” setting in your browser: if you switch it on, your visit is not counted.

What we do with it

We send you the Piaterra newsletter: new locations as they open, stories and accessible adventures from our community, and what we are building next.

We do not use your address for anything else, we do not sell it, and we do not pass it on for anyone else’s marketing.

Cookies and analytics

This website does not use cookies, and nothing is stored in your browser.

Everything a page needs — the fonts, the images, the code — comes from our own servers. Nothing is fetched from an outside content network, so opening a page here does not tell any company other than the ones named below that you visited us.

We do count visits, using Pirsch, a German analytics service. It works without cookies: your IP address and browser details are turned into a short-lived hash that we cannot reverse or trace back to you, and what we see are totals — page views, referring sites, rough country and device type.

If we ever add something that does need cookies, we will ask you before we switch it on.

Who else can see it

Four companies help us run Piaterra. Each can see your data only in order to do its job, and each acts on our instructions:

• HubSpot — stores your email address and sends the newsletter. Your data is held in the European Union.
• Netlify — hosts this website and handles the signup form.
• Pirsch — our visit statistics. The data is processed in Germany.
• Microsoft 365 — our info@piaterra.com mailbox, if you write to us.

None of them may use your data for their own purposes.

How long we keep it

Your email address: for as long as you are subscribed.

When you unsubscribe we stop emailing you straight away. Your address then stays on a do-not-contact list inside HubSpot, so that a later signup or import does not accidentally start emailing you again. If you would rather be erased completely, just ask and we will delete it.

Visit statistics: we keep these for as long as they are useful to us. They are aggregate figures with nothing in them that points to you.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• show you what we hold about you
• correct it if it is wrong
• delete it
• send it to you in a portable file
• stop using it, or object to how we use it

Write to info@piaterra.com. We will answer within one month, and it costs nothing.

If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Changes to this page

Piaterra is small and still growing, so what we do will change, and this page will change with it. When it does, we will update the date at the top.

If a change needs your consent — a cookie, say, or a new use for your email address — we will ask you before it takes effect.
